Sirocco Ridge Farm offers two pastured poultry options.
Flock-shares: We offer a limited number of CSA flock-shares for unprocessed eggs from our chickens. For 10 months you will lease an undivided share of laying chickens, and have the right to a share of the eggs produced. Based on our experience a share will likely average 1 dozen eggs every 2 weeks. However, just like the farm itself, you may experience the cycles and risks of egg production.
About our hens, and humane and sustainable care: Our chicken hens include a mix of heritage and modern breeds that produce many egg colors. Our hens are cage-free and have a chicken tractor (mobile layer house moved regularly) where they sleep, can lay eggs, and have water and supplemental food. We use our specially designed mobile tractor with chicken nest boxes above. During the day they are free ranging, but roost in their tractor at night. Our mixed flock of birds live within a large electric mesh fence we move weekly, to protect them from predators. The homestead flock of retired birds have free-range of the entire farm, including the lawns, woods, pastures and barn. All birds have lived on the farm since they were day-old chicks, and have never been treated with antibiotics. All birds come from US Approved Pullorum-Typhoid Clean hatcheries and are vaccinated for Marek’s disease.
As a flock-share member, you get: clean, unprocessed, sound-shelled, and unfertilized eggs. Our interesting eggs vary in color, shape and size, but chicken eggs are usually large to extra-large.
Share are limited, and available first come first served.

Pastured meat chickens
All Sirocco Ridge Farm animals are humanely raised in pastures. Our motto for our animals is, "Sun upon their heads and grass under their feet." After feathering out, our birds are moved daily and have free access to sunshine and foraging within their safety fenced area. They are certified pullorum and typhoid free. Our happy birds are handled daily and will even come when called! We offer a Label Rouge-descended breed in addition to the normal Cornish Rock pullets. Label-rouge descended birds have a richer flavor and texture more similar to turkey, with a larger amount of dark meat. Cornish Rocks are flavorful and juicy, with a larger amount of white breast meat. Both breeds move on to pasture early so they can grow strong and healthy, with constant access to foraging. We strive to raise healthy and sustainably grown birds that are healthy for you and your family.
Since all our poultry are grown to meet our farm community's needs, you can feel confident in ordering as many or as few as you need. We process at least twice a year--spring/summer and fall--to provide you with maximum freshness and flexibility. According to the USDA, the average American will eat roughly 20 full size chickens or 50 game hens/poussins per year. Feel free to contact us if you would like help in calculating your family's needs.
Our on-farm processing includes great attention to detail. We use only potable water, drinking-water safe hoses, and BPA-free packaging, and, since we believe in transparency every step of the way, you are always welcome to come watch or help in the processing if you are interested.
